Spaceship to the Moon

Yesterday I was feeling horrible with a nasty cold virus.  Ashley at one point came up to me and asked if we could go on a spaceship to the moon.  I told her I was sorry but that Mommy just wasn't feeling up to a trip to the moon.  But today I'm feeling a little better so I grabbed a cardboard box and asked her if she wanted to help Mommy make a spaceship today.  She was so excited.  I drew some stars and a moon on it and she stuck on some little star stickers.  I also added a control panel with buttons.  Then we counted backwards and blasted off for the moon.  Afterwards she played with her sisters in it for a while and they all had a blast visiting the various planets.

A Little Pirate

Ashley is a different person everyday.  Well, usually she's multiple people in one day.  :)  She loves to be a kitten, fairy, butterfly, princess, a Daddy - complete with a mustache and low voice, and today she decided she wanted to be a pirate.  Having three little girls we didn't have any kind of pirate accessories, so we had to get creative.  It all started when I was doing a Math activity with Emily using pipe cleaners.  Ashley wanted one, too, so she could have a pirate patch.  I asked her what color it should be and she told me black.  So I fashioned her a patch.  After that she wanted a pirate hat.  We didn't have anything of the sort, but Daddy thought he could make her a paper hat.  It ended up being huge, but she loved it!  Next she said she needed a pirate costume.  So we looked through the dress up box and found a Madeline coat that we thought would make a nice blue pirate outfit.  After that she told me she needed pirate shoes.  We looked through all of our shoes but none of them were right.  They were either "too big" or "not pirate shoes".  So I asked her what pirate shoes look like.   She informed me, "Pirate shoes are yellow."  Suddenly it dawned on me that what she wanted were a pair of rubber ducky rain boots that were way too small for her but that she loved.  So I went down to the basement and got them for her.  After that she told me she needed a hook.  So we got her a hook made out of another pipe cleaner.  She was very happy now and went around saying, "Arrrr.  I'm a pirate,"  in a very low voice.  Don and I had to admit she was the cutest little pirate we've ever seen.

Sunday Activity - Door of Envelopes

Every Sunday we try to spend time doing Sunday family activities together.  This Sunday we played Family Hide and Go Seek,  played a board game, played find the thimble, and we started this door of envelopes.  Basically each envelop has a task on the outside such as do an act of service for someone, memorize a scripture, draw a scripture story, etc.  The girls can choose an envelop and do whatever it says.  Once they accomplish it they can open it up and inside there is a little chocolate heart and some sort of coupon.  The coupons have things like "pick a treat to bake with Mommy" or  "choose a fun activity to do together as a family" .  They were so excited to get started on them.  I figure it will take them a couple of weeks to do them all, so it should be a fun activity to last for a while.  :)

Alexis' Doll Dress Shop

Alexis has started her own doll dress shop.  She put this sign up and I asked her about it.  she said she was going to be making dresses for dolls and if I needed any to let her know.  I thought I would help her out and I took her to the fabric store to get a few supplies.  She's very excited to start making dresses for all the dolls in the house.

First Snow Play of 2012!

These little ones have been waiting for weeks for the first snow to play in this winter.  We finally got it today!  They have been thrilled to outside, all bundled up in their snowgear, sledding and making snow angels.  We don't really have much of an area to sled but they were happy with the little tiny slopes of the yard.  It was a very fun day!  :)

Emily's Tea Party

We had the pleasure of being invited to Emily's Tea Party today.  It was simply delightful.  She made out invitations for everyone.  She chose the menu of cookies, hot cocoa, and horchata - for Daddy, since it is one of his favorites.  She put a lace tablecloth on the table and set it with lovely flowered dishes.  It was a lovely time and we were lucky Grandma, Grandpa, and Aunt Becca were visiting so they could attend, as well.  :)

Snowy Day With a Microscope

Alexis received a microscope for Christmas and she has loved putting all sorts of things underneath of it to look at.  So one day it was very windy and snowy.  So windy that just a little bit of snow was blowing in through our living room window onto the windowsill, which has a slight sealing problem.  So Alexis grabbed some black construction paper and scraped off little bits of snowflakes and all three girls were so excited looking at them under the microscope.  Daddy and I looked, as well.  They were so pretty!

Little Kitten

Emily and Ashley like to play "Little Kitten" from time to time.  Emily is the little girl and Ashley is her pet kitten.  She ties a jump rope around Ashley's waist and then  walks her around the house.  She'll tie the other end of the rope to various objects for a minute or two at a time (usually feeding her)  and then commences to walk her some more, talking to her kitten, all the time.  Ashley meows ever so sweetly at her and loves the game.  It's so cute to watch.  :)
